Hippo
The
hippopotamus, or hippo for short, is a large semi-aquatic mammal found in
sub-Saharan Africa. They are known for their barrel-shaped bodies, short legs,
and large mouths filled with sharp teeth.
Hippos spend
most of their time in water, where they can submerge themselves to keep cool
and avoid predators. They are herbivores, mainly feeding on grasses and other
vegetation, and can consume up to 150 pounds of food in a single night.
Despite
their docile appearance, hippos are considered one of the most dangerous
animals in Africa, responsible for more human fatalities than any other large
mammal. They are territorial and can become very aggressive, especially during
mating season or when protecting their young.
